Exploring Trauma and Resilience Programmes: A Holistic Path to Recovery

We are wired to survive. Our body has automatic mechanisms that kick in to ensure our survival, often without us realising. If you've ever felt angry, anxious or scared without knowing why, this is why. Your body sensed a threat and switched to survival mode - fight, flight or freeze. This is why when we work on trauma, we can't limit it to a cognitive approach. Because if you are like me and most of my clients, we "know" something is not good for us or an irrational response, but that doesn't mean we stop doing it. Today, I want to share insights into the body-based, holistic approach I use to work with my clients.
Understanding Trauma
Many of us think that trauma is one big event, a huge traumatic experience like war or sexual abuse, and it is. But trauma is also anything that overwhelms us and we are unable to process. This can also be bullying, prolonged exposure to anxiety or stress, and even not getting our emotional needs met when we were young.
As we grow to adulthood, these experiences have formed patterns that help us to survive. While this is a normal survival strategy, it can very often be unhelpful and even dangerous. I had a client once that was often emotionally neglected as a child, in her adulthood, she decided she needed no one and often sabotaged her relationships, not just romantic. Yet, she craved a loving and secure community. Another, was punished with slaps when she was a child and often found herself in physically abusive relationships in her adulthood.

Supportive Community: Where possible, a supportive community can do wonders for your journey.
Empowerment Focus: The aim is to help you regain control and build a future filled with hope.

What Are the 5 Phases of Healing Trauma?
Healing trauma is not a linear path but a process that unfolds in phases. Understanding these phases can help you feel more grounded and patient with yourself as you move forward.
Safety and Stabilization
We begin by gently building safety and regulation within your nervous system, using tools like guided meditations, breathwork, and somatic practices to help you feel more grounded and steady.
Self-Compassion and Love
Together, we explore your strengths, address the patterns you've been repeating, and understand and honour the parts that have worked hard to keep you safe.
Reconnection and Integration
With love and care, we begin reclaiming your voice, setting healthy boundaries, and cultivating relationships that honour your worth.
Rebuilding
This phase focuses on setting goals, exploring new possibilities, and embracing your power.
Growth and Transformation
Healing culminates in transformation. You emerge with a deeper understanding of yourself and a renewed sense of purpose.
Each phase invites you to move at your own pace, honoring your feelings and needs along the way.
The Heart of Healing: How Subuhi’s Trauma and Resilience Programme Supports You
Working with Subuhi has been life transforming experience. She has a gentle way in which she listens. And she hears more than what words convey. She understands the emotions, the pain, the journey of suffering. And then she turns around and asks a question that renders you speechless. Because that’s exactly what you needed to get out from inside you. She puts her finger on the underlying knot and pulls the thread that needs to be pulled to unravel it. To unsettle the buried layers of whatever we have put to shut out the pain. And then she works with you to slowly peel them away to find your true self. To regain your confidence. To heal. To learn to forgive oneself and others. To learn to hear one’s inner voice. To pay attention to one’s instinct. To trust oneself again. And to trust others too. It is the rare magical quality of a healer. To know what needs healing and to help you through that process. Subuhi has that gift. - R
